NUDI OKEYO
MEET NUDIÂ OKEYO
1. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF AND HOW YOU WOULD DESCRIBE NICOLE OKEYO?
I'm Nicole Nudi Okeyo but i prefer Nudi Okeyo. I was nicknamed Koli from a young age and ever since it has been my 4th name. I'm 19 years of age ,a fashion stylist and an aspiring fashion editor.
I'm a very outgoing person, a risk taker and above all a God fearing lady.

2. WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
' NYAR NAM ' Says it all. Girl from the lake side.
3. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START DESIGNING?
My mum was a very stylish woman back in the day and I'd sometimes pick out outfits for her to wear. IÂ would always get concerned about how IÂ looked and even play dress up almost everyday.
Lets just say 'Fashion and Design' was a calling from childhood.
4. THE FASHION SCENE IS VERY COMPETITIVE. HOW DO YOU STAND OUT?
I personally don't look at the fashion scene as a competition, though its been made one. I believe every individual has their way of style, your personal style is what makes you 'YOU' and me 'ME'. So what I'd say about my style is, I can fit in all trends that make me comfortable and I don't limit myself as that's what being a risk taker all entails.
5. DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW PROJECTS YOU'D LIKE TO SHOW OF?
Let's just say its a surprise. but good vibes are coming your way.
6. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROJECT "NYAR NAM" AND HOW DID YOU GUYS COME UP WITH THE NAME?
NYAR NAM is a project inspired by African narratives but we express them through a journey of a lady who discovers different cultures and stories from different places in the world.
We express this through our accessories and bags.
7. WHAT IS YOUR BUCKET LIST OF IDEAS TO CREATE TO ESTABLISH YOUR BRAND "NYAR NAM" ?
We want to expand and make this more of an art. NYAR NAM is not only going to be a brand but a movement. Touch on the stories that have never been told, inspire the youth and even the old either by creating employment or becoming a voice of the unheard.
8. WHICH SO FAR WOULD YOU SAY TO BE THE BIGGEST STYLE YOUVE PULLED OF SO FAR?
I'm currently working on a new project and IÂ feel this will be a major turn and give my fashion sense a level up.
9. WHAT HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO DO BUT HAVEN'T?
SKATE!! I've always wanted to skate but sadly my first trial was my last.
10. WHATS YOUR BIGGEST SETBACK AS A DESIGNER?
FEAR. That's the first challenge almost every designer faces. Before making your first step in introducing anything new, you have to ask yourself:
Will they like it?
Will they hate it?
Will this new venture pay off?
These are some of the many questions I ask myself before doing something new.
11. WHAT FASHION TREND DO YOU WISH WOULD COME BACK?
Hipsters, I always had a problem wearing them when I was young but now I feel I can take over the world in them.
12. WHAT FASHION TREND DO YOU WISH WAS GONE FOREVER?
BULLEROS. OMG that's a noo go zone.
13. WHO HAS THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON YOUR DESIGNING?
This might sound funny but my day 1 mentor is AFRICA. She's beautiful, she got all the colors of the world on her, she's yet a mystery to be solved. everything about her wows me
14. WHATÂ DO YOU THINK THE KENYAN FASHION SCENE NEEDS?
It needs a challenge from fresh designers from upcoming fabric designers to fashion stylists you name it.
16. IS YOUR BRAND NYAR NAM PLANNING ON RELEASING A MALE COLLECTION?
We've been thinking about it and we are planning on doing so, but as for now we mostly do female and a few male designs.
15. AS A FINAL NOTE, WHAT DO YOU FEEL MAKES A GOOD FASHION DESIGNER?
First brand yourself as a designer, know who you are and what you stand for. after doing this it'll be easier for you to understand the depth of designing and what people want at different seasons.
This will make you appreciate the different trends and even perfect them to your own liking.
